Jólasveinar - Isländische Weihnachten
In Iceland’s mystical winter landscapes, people have been telling for centuries the fascinating story of the Jólasveinar - the Yule Lads - who live in the mountains with their eerie parents Grýla and Leppalúði. This band of pranksters is as unique as it is intimidating. Yet their intentions are not truly evil; rather, they bring a blend of mischief and the grotesque into
the holiday season.
The bracelet JÓLASVEINAR is inspired by the legend of Iceland’s Jólasveinar. This special piece of jewelry draws on the symbolism and cultural significance of the Yule Lads and combines it with the symbolic language of selected gemstones.
Between December 12 and December 24, the Jólasveinar set out one by one for the villages. They sneak into homes and play tricks on people, steal food, or pester livestock. Each Jólasveinn has a distinct personality and signature quirks that leave locals both startled and amused. Their list of pranks is as quirky as it is entertaining. On January 6, the last of them returns to the mountains.
Despite their eerie origins, the Jólasveinar have become beloved symbolic figures in modern Icelandic culture. They represent the spirit of winter, the enchantment of the holidays, and the joy of celebrating together.
